Freaky Fashion

In an attempt to keep the fashion world fresh designers have started turning towards the weird and the wonderful to grab our attention. I know that this has always been the case throughout the years but since the Millenium there has been a stronger presence in the world of "Freaky Fashion".

Take this new dress by artistic designer Daan Roosegaarde who has created this piece from leather and smart opaque e-foils. The premise is that this is a link between fashion and intimacy. When the wearer's heart beat is increased the opaque foils turn clear reveealing what is underneath. So basically when you are turned on it will be obvious to all in your vicinity.

Clever stuff but not sure it is something I would like to wear down the local on a Saturday night. I don't think Ireland is quite ready for this yet.

Leandro Cano's collection as seen at Portugal Fashion week this February shows he is a man who isn't scared of weird.

He designs in leather and knits and tapestry with exaggerated structures and quirky crochet to boot. I can appreciate the work that has gone into this collection, but I can imagine these shall remain on the catwalk only.

Having said that I do have a soft spot for designer Fyodor Golan. It's the toungue in cheek aspect of the designs that draws my attention, along with the follow through of complete crazy  make up. These are just a selection from the Autumn/Winter Collection.

It wouldnt be fair not to mention the fabulous team at Alexander McQueen in this post. Every season I'm blown away by the creativity. Yes it has a touch of the freaky sometimes but really its just art. These are a couple of my favourite designs from Autumn/Winter 2012.

So where do you stand in the fashion stakes? Are you a follower of Lady Gaga and Jessie J? Do you go for wacky or classy....... I certainly like to keep things interesting so keep it up fashiuon weirdos...
